Artist Dmitry Teselkin's upcoming solo exhibition titled 'RAL6003' will consist of his new body of work which currently revolves around the fabrication and variable reconfiguration of a single geometric form. Influenced in equal measure by the aesthetics of minimalism and industrial design in the context of social intervention and reflecting on the art as a weapon.
Teselkin's series 'Constructor' which he has been developing for over 8 years is an ongoing body of work and represents the main thrust of his art.
"I have produced my signature modules using a wide variety of materials and methods, such as laser-cut cardboard, plexiglass, steel, stone, concrete".'Constructor' is a series of singular works and installations with one general idea and a linear theme.
Dimtry's 'Constructor' in it's different forms, have been nominated and short listed for all 3 Russian contemporary art prizes, the Kandinsky, Innovation, and Sergey Kuryokhin prizes. They have also been exhibited in Russia and abroad, in solo and group exhibitions.
The main idea of creating "Constructor" and reinventing it in different forms is to show an artist playing as a child, whose game becomes more complex and change due to rules and life as he grows up.
"I am deeply convinced that a creative person of any kind can do the best only when playing no matter with what: ideas, forms, or even the laws of physics. This fact allows me to use the principle of a common childhood game in my artworks. With my game I study the art world, as well as the world in general".While this approach is at times playful, it can also be an aggressive form, as Dmitry often sees art as the artist’s weapon. He believes most artists dream of conquering the world with their art. Like weapons, artworks are also shown at fairs and exhibitions. Both are expensive and highly advertised. It’s carefully packed and transported around the world.
"If we consider my project 'Constructor' from this point of view, it is certainly a weapon. In fact, most artists are conquerors, who want to export their weapons around the world".
